[Review] Suitor Armor, Vol 3 by Purpah

Wowza! I love this graphic novel so much. This is a surprisingly deep installment in the series, moving beyond pure fantasy to deliver a powerful story about self-discovery, the future of love, and the horrors of bigotry.

The exploration of racial persecution in this volume is fantastic—bold, in-your-face, and undeniable. Purpah doesn't shy away from the difficult themes, presenting a narrative that is both heartbreaking and deeply relevant.

While the social commentary is excellent, there is a more subtle and, for me, more fascinating exploration going on here. At its heart, this is a love story between a fairy and an artificial construct. But this is so much more than a simple fantasy romance; it's a brilliant and insightful look into our society's growing interaction with AI.

Part of what makes this so compelling is watching an artificial construct learn about humanity, navigate a complex society, and struggle to find words for its own burgeoning feelings. It is not just a story about falling in love; it is a story about the very discovery of love.

Oh. My. God. The ending... No! Why did you do this to me, Purpah? I was so completely immersed in this book that I didn't even realize I was near the final page. And then—done. It is an absolute, gut-punch of a cliffhanger.

This was a great story, and I cannot wait for the next installment. The Suitor Armor series is officially one of my all-time favorite graphic novels.

Note: I received this book as an ARC. It is scheduled to be released August 12, 2025.
