This book was a bit of a slow start for me, but once I got into it, I really enjoyed it.
Good worldbuilding, diverse characters, intrigue, political machinations, and a family reunited. I even really enjoyed the pro-animal / anti-animal cruelty stance.
But one thing I didn't particularly care for was the way the book followed two characters whose story lines didn't connect until the end of the book. It just felt a bit too divided.
Still, this was a solid story with a good plot. And now I feel invested in it and am curious about the next book in the series!
